Madmaxlabs
Manifesto

On software made with you, not at you.

Software is the only product where we accept that the thing we ship is brittle, ugly, and opaque, as long as it functions.

We can do better.

The opposite of brittle, ugly, and opaque isn't perfectionism. It's care.

Care looks like this:

  • A button that responds when you press it, the way a real one does. Not when the JavaScript decides to acknowledge you.
  • A timer that shows the truth about how much time you've actually spent, not a cheerful round number.
  • An app that knows what it's for, and doesn't try to be three other things while you're using it.

The studio exists because most software doesn't have this. Not for lack of capability. Most of the people who write software are smart and well-intentioned. The structure of how software gets made just doesn't reward care.

Quarterly metrics reward feature shipping. Capital rewards platform plays. Open-source rewards adoption. Care doesn't show up in any of those.

So Madmaxlabs is small on purpose. Two people, one calendar, opinionated as one. The constraint is the feature.

The work here will be slow. It will be opinionated. Some of it will be wrong. None of it will be lazy.

If that's interesting to you, stick around.
